| Reverse description | A crowned, elaborately mantled shield bearing the quartered arms of Nassau-Dillenburg is displayed in the centre of the field, supported on either side by a rampant lion. The date 1683 is divided across the lower portion of the field, with '16' to the lower left and '83' to the lower right of the shield. A Latin legend encircles the entire design, recording the ruler's full titles as Count of Katzenelnbogen, Vianden, and Dietz, and Lord of Beilstein. The composition is enclosed within a toothed border consistent with milled Thaler production. |

Nassau-Dillenburg had effectively been a political afterthought for decades by 1683, its ruling line fragmented across the Nassau partition treaties of the previous century. Henry — Heinrich — held a territory of limited strategic weight, but the issuance of a thaler was a deliberate assertion of princely monetary authority at a moment when the smaller German states were increasingly subordinated to the financial machinery of larger neighbors. Few thalers were struck for Dillenburg in this period, which accounts for the type's consistent scarcity across auction records.
