Additional information

Gustav Adolphus ruled Mecklenburg-Güstrow from 1636 until his death in 1695, the last duke of his line. His reign coincided with the long administrative and financial recovery following the Thirty Years' War, during which Mecklenburg had been occupied, plundered, and effectively handed to Wallenstein as a fief by Ferdinand II. This thaler was struck just two years before the duchy's extinction — on Gustav Adolphus's death without male heirs, Güstrow reverted to Mecklenburg-Schwerin under the 1701 Hamburg family compact, ending the Güstrow line permanently.
