| Obverse description | A complex allegorical memorial scene fills the field, commemorating the death of King Gustav II Adolf at the Battle of Lützen (1632). At upper centre, a Hebrew inscription appears above divine rays of light descending from clouds, symbolising divine sanction. An angel or winged figure descends from the heavens amid the rays, while below a fortified town with flags is depicted on the left and a crowned lion — the Swedish royal emblem — appears to the lower right amid a maritime scene with a vessel. The field inscription VEL MORTUUM FUGIUNT ('even in death they flee') is integrated into the design. The encircling Latin legend reads: GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS MAGNUS D:G:SUEC:GOTH:&VAND:REX AUGUSTUS VEL MORTUUM FUGIUNT EUGE SERVE FIDELIS, separated by decorative stops. |
