Beschrijving keerzijde Elaborately quartered and crowned coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, supported on either side by two rearing griffins facing outward. The helmeted achievement is surmounted by multiple crested helms with mantling. A continuous Latin legend encircles the design, and the entire composition fills the field in the characteristic Baroque heraldic style of the period.

Aanvullende informatie

Gustav Adolf of Mecklenburg-Güstrow died in 1695, but this thaler was struck fifteen years earlier, likely to assert dynastic presence during a period of acute vulnerability — the duchy had been partitioned between the Güstrow and Schwerin lines in 1621, a division that generated decades of jurisdictional friction and succession anxiety. Mecklenburg-Güstrow would ultimately revert to Schwerin upon Gustav Adolf's death without male heirs, making issues from this reign terminal points of a short-lived cadet line.

Kunzel 498a distinguishes this variety within a small emission group; survivors in problem-free condition are not plentiful.
