Günther XLI and John Günther ruled Schwarzburg jointly following the partition arrangements that left this small Thuringian county perpetually subdivided among male heirs. Joint-reign thalers of this period are administratively specific documents — they record an exact co-regency window, and when one ruler died the dies were retired.
The Davenport reference places this squarely in the Germanic territorial thaler series of the 1560s, a decade when dozens of minor counts scrambled to assert minting rights as imperial oversight loosened after the 1559 Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis redirected Habsburg attention westward.
