| Obverse description | Elaborately mantled and crowned quartered coat of arms displayed on an ornate baroque shield occupying the central field. The four quarters bear the arms of England (three passant guardant lions), Scotland (rampant lion within double tressure), France (three fleurs-de-lis), and Ireland (harp), with the arms of Hanover (white horse) on an inescutcheon at centre base. The royal crown surmounts the shield, and the date 1763 is divided across the lower field to either side of the shield. The encircling Latin legend reads: GEORG • III • D • G • M • BRIT • FR • & H • REX • F • D • BR • & L • DVX • S • R • I • A • TH • & EL. |
