Obverse description Crowned quartered coat of arms displayed at center, featuring the arms of England and Scotland in the first and fourth quarters, France (fleurs-de-lis) in the second quarter, and Ireland (harp) and Hanover (white horse) in the third and fourth quarters respectively, all supported by elaborate baroque scrollwork mantling. A large royal crown surmounts the shield. The encircling Latin legend reads GEORGIVS II D G M BRIT FR ET H REX F D DVX S RI A TH ET EL, identifying George II as King of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
