| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a large, elaborately quartered heraldic shield surmounted by a royal crown. The shield displays the multiple armorial bearings of the Brunswick-Lüneburg dynasty, incorporating lions, horses, and other dynastic charges arranged in multiple quarters. The "Pines with Creek" thaler belongs to a genre of wildman and landscape thalers produced by the Brunswick-Lüneburg duchies in the late 17th century, issued partly as prestige pieces asserting ducal identity at a moment when the Hanoverians were actively lobbying Vienna for elevation to electoral status — a rank they finally secured in 1692, just six years before this coin was struck. George I, who would later inherit the British throne in 1714, was at this point Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Elector of Hanover, consolidating a dynasty with ambitions well beyond its north German territories.
