| Obverse description | Central field displays the elaborate quartered coat of arms of Brunswick-Lüneburg, surmounted by an electoral crown, incorporating multiple dynastic quarterings including the two lions of Brunswick, the white horse of Hanover, the lion of Lüneburg, and further subsidiary charges. The date 1704 is divided to either side of the shield, with the mintmaster initials HB flanking the lower portion. The circumferential Latin legend reads GEORG:LUD:D.G.D.BR.& LUN:S.L.I.EL., identifying George Louis (the future George I of Great Britain) as Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg and Prince-Elector. |
