Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Gábor Bethlen facing right, wearing a fur-trimmed mantle fastened at the shoulder, with a short beard and mustache. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait. The encircling Latin legend reads around the periphery, identifying the ruler as Prince of Transylvania and Count of the Holy Roman Empire.

Reverse description Quartered coat of arms of Transylvania within an ornate shield, displaying the heraldic charges of the Principality including the Transylvanian eagle, the seven castles, and the sun and moon motifs. The mintmark letters N-B (Nagybánya mint) appear flanking the shield. The date 1627 is inscribed in the upper field, and the encircling Latin legend identifies Bethlen's additional titles.
