| 背面描述 | Quartered heraldic shield surmounted by a royal crown, displaying the arms of Transylvania (sun and moon in first quarter, Transylvanian eagle in second quarter, and the seven castles of Saxony in third quarter), with additional dynastic elements. The mint mark N-B (Nagybánya/Baia Mare) and the date 1622 appear flanking the shield. The encircling Latin legend reads PART HVND OSI CO AGOB DUX, denoting his titles as Duke and Count of the Hungarian Partium and other territories, all within an outer beaded border. |

Bethlen struck this thaler at the height of his involvement in the Thirty Years' War, having invaded Royal Hungary twice by this point and briefly claimed the Hungarian crown in 1620 before renouncing it under the Peace of Nikolsburg the following year. That treaty, signed January 1622, was barely ink-dry when this coin entered production — the timing places it squarely within his post-settlement consolidation of Transylvanian authority and the substantial territorial concessions he extracted from the Habsburgs.
Resch's catalogue distinguishes at least two die combinations for this year across entries 170–171.
