Obverse description Armored equestrian effigy of Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg, galloping to the right with sword raised aloft, depicted in the manner of a triumphant military commander. A panoramic battle scene with troops and fortifications appears in the lower field beneath the horse. The circular Latin legend reads FRID:WILH:D°G°MAR°BR SRIARC & EL: OB SVBDITOS SERVATOS, translating as 'Frederick William, by the Grace of God, Margrave of Brandenburg, Arch-Chancellor and Elector, for the protection of his subjects.' The coin exhibits fine milled borders and bold relief characteristic of Brandenburg Baroque medallic art.
