Frederick William and his brother John ruled Saxe-Weimar jointly following the division of Ernestine Saxon territories, a dynastic arrangement that produced relatively short co-regency coinages. John died in 1605, but the brothers' joint issues were struck across only a narrow window in the 1580s, making surviving examples from this specific period scarcer than the later sole-reign issues of Frederick William.
The Dav GT I#9770 attribution places this squarely within the broader Guldentaler/Reichstaler transition coinage of the Ernestine line — a monetary moment when standardization across fragmented Saxon holdings was still being negotiated mint by mint.
