Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg, wearing a laureate crown and armour with an ornate gorget decorated with the Hohenzollern eagle. The elector's long, flowing curly hair cascades over his shoulders in the Baroque manner. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, interrupted by the bust at the base, reading FRID • WILH • D • G • M • B • S • R • I • A-C • & EL. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail characteristic of late 17th-century German minting artistry.
