Reverse description The reverse bears an entirely epigraphic design with no pictorial elements, consisting of a commemorative funerary inscription in Latin arranged across multiple lines filling the entire field. The text records the birth of Elisabeth at Kolding in Denmark on 25 August 1573 and her death at Brunswick on 19 July 1626. Small decorative stops separate the lines of text, and the inscription is concluded by the letters HS (Hic Sita), a conventional Latin funerary formula. The legend identifies her as Queen of Denmark and Duchess of Brunswick and Lüneburg. The coin was issued by her devoted sons as a memorial piece.
