Obverse description Armored three-quarter bust of Elector Frederick IV facing right, depicted in elaborate Renaissance plate armor with ruff collar, holding a sword upright over his right shoulder. A small cross-pommée is visible on the breastplate. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the prevailing late-16th-century German style. The encircling Latin legend reads FRIDERICVS. D. G. Co. PAL. RH. EL. D. B., denoting his title as Count Palatine of the Rhine and Elector, Duke of Bavaria.

Reverse description Elaborate quartered coat of arms of the Palatinate displayed in a Renaissance shield, incorporating the lion of the Palatinate, the Bavarian lozengy field, and additional heraldic quarterings, surmounted by an electoral helm with mantling. The arms are rendered with fine engraving characteristic of Heidelberg mint workmanship. The surrounding Latin motto legend reads PIE. IVSTE. TEM PERANTER, meaning 'Piously, Justly, Temperately,' with the date 1592 integrated into the legend.
