Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse-Cassel, with elaborately curled hair and queue, occupying the central field. The surrounding Latin legend reads FRIDERICUS II. D.G. HASS. LAND. HAC. OM., identifying the ruler by name and title. The inscription is separated from the rim by a finely milled border. The portrait is rendered in a refined late-Baroque style characteristic of German princely coinage of the 1770s.
