The effigy is rendered in high relief in the Baroque style typical of early eighteenth-century German coinage. The encircling Latin legend reads FRID • D • G • REX • BORUSS • EL • BR • C.F.L., expanding to Fridericus Dei Gratia Rex Borussiae Elector Brandenburgensis, separated by ornamental stops. Mint-master initials appear at the lower truncation of the bust. |

The monogram is encircled by a decorative chain of the Order of the Black Eagle, the premier order of the Prussian kingdom, with the order's badge — a crowned eagle on a cross — appearing at the base of the design. The date 1705 is inscribed in the lower field, flanked by the mint-master's initials C-S. The peripheral Latin legend SVVM CVIQUE — the motto of the Order of the Black Eagle meaning 'To each his own' — runs around the circumference. |
