| Obverse description | Draped bust of Bishop Frederick Christian von Plettenberg facing right, wearing episcopal vestments with ornate lace cravat and a voluminous curled allonge wig characteristic of the late 17th-century Baroque style. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the robes and hair. The encircling Latin legend reads FRIDER:CHRISTI:D:G:EPISC:MONAS: separated by small stars, running along the inner edge of a rope-bordered rim. |

The mint master's initials H·L·O appear in the lower field, with the date 1697 divided at the top of the crown.
