Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing armored bust of Friedrich August I in his capacity as Elector of Saxony, depicted with elaborately detailed cuirass and epaulettes, his hair dressed in the late 18th-century fashion with a queue. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail on the armor's scale and lace ornamentation. The encircling Latin legend reads FRID·AVGVST·D·G·DVX SAX·ELECTOR, positioned along the upper and right periphery of the field. A beaded inner border frames the design.

Aanvullende informatie

Ausbeute thalers were struck from silver mined in Saxony's own ore mountains — the Erzgebirge — a practice that linked the Saxon court directly to its mineral revenues and served as a very public assertion of mining wealth. This 1807 pattern predates the formal reclassification of Saxony to a kingdom, which Frederick August I obtained from Napoleon following the Treaty of Posen in December 1806. The timing is precise: this piece was almost certainly struck in transition, when the electorate's title was already obsolete but not yet fully suppressed on the dies.
