1 Thaler - Franz I

Franz I served as Holy Roman Emperor largely in the shadow of his wife Maria Theresa, who held the hereditary Habsburg lands directly. The Thaler coinage issued under his name during this period reflects that constitutional awkwardness — he reigned as Emperor but exercised relatively little independent authority over monetary policy, which remained firmly within Maria Theresa's administration. His death in 1765 at Innsbruck, while attending festivities for a son's wedding, ended the series abruptly.

KM#2038 encompasses multiple mint and die combinations across the fourteen-year span, and attributing individual pieces to specific facilities requires close attention to mintmaster marks.
