Obverse description Central field occupied by a large quartered heraldic shield displaying the combined arms of the Abbeys of Werden and Helmstedt, featuring an eagle, a lion, crossed keys, and horizontal barry divisions across the four quarters. The shield is surmounted by an abbatial mitre with ornate lappets and flanking foliate mantling rendered in high relief Baroque style. The date 1698 appears above the shield at the apex of the coin, flanked by the beginning of the circular Latin legend. The peripheral legend reads FERDINAND. D.G. ABBAS. WERDIN. ET. HELMSTAD. 1698, separated by pellets and running along the inner beaded border.

Reverse description Full-length standing figure of the Immaculate Virgin Mary depicted facing front in flowing robes with long hair, her hands clasped in a gesture of prayer before her chest. She stands upon a crescent moon, a traditional Marian iconographic attribute, set within an oval inner border. A crown of twelve stars encircles her head in a halo arrangement, referencing the Apocalyptic Woman of Revelation 12. The surrounding circular Latin legend VIRGO IMMACULATA IVGITER SIS PATRONA. is distributed around the periphery within a beaded border, invoking the Virgin as perpetual patroness of the abbeys.
