| Aanvullende informatie |
Ferdinand III inherited the Imperial title in 1637 following his father Ferdinand II's death, but his authority over the Styrian lands centered on Graz predated that — he had governed there as Archduke from 1625. The Graz mint was one of several Habsburg hereditary land mints operating concurrently during this period, each producing thalers with subtle but catalogable differences in die workmanship. By 1640, the Thirty Years' War was grinding into its final decade, and silver coinage from the Inner Austrian mints was being produced under significant fiscal pressure to fund Imperial military commitments.
KM#881 is specific to the Graz issue; collectors should distinguish it carefully from the contemporaneous Vienna and Sankt Veit strikings of the same reign.
