1 Thaler - Ferdinand II of Tyrol Hall

Ferdinand II ruled Tyrol as an archduke from 1564 until his death in 1595, operating Hall's mint as one of the most productive silver-striking operations in the Habsburg hereditary lands. The Hall mint had pioneered roller press technology in the 1560s, and by the time these thalers were struck, it was producing coinage with a mechanical consistency that hand-struck issues from rival mints simply could not match. Ferdinand was also an obsessive collector — his Kunstkammer at Ambras Castle survives largely intact and includes coin-related artifacts that illuminate exactly how seriously the Tyrolean court took its numismatic output.

The Davenport ECT#56 designation places this squarely in the early thaler series for his reign, before the design revisions that appear in later issues.
