正面描述 Laureate and armored bust of Emperor Ferdinand II facing right, wearing a straight ruff collar, set within a double concentric circle, the inner ring beaded. The regnal numeral is rendered as 'Z' in place of 'II' in the Latin legend, a characteristic orthographic feature of early seventeenth-century Habsburg coinage. The date is inscribed in small characters beneath the bust in the lower field. The imperial titulature runs continuously around the periphery between the double circle and the outer rim.

附加信息

Ferdinand II's Graz thalers of 1623–24 were struck at a moment when the Habsburg reconquest of Bohemia had just been secured at the Battle of White Mountain in 1620, and Ferdinand was aggressively reasserting Catholic authority across his hereditary lands. The Graz mint, operating under Inner Austrian jurisdiction, was one of several regional facilities Ferdinand used to fund military campaigns and administrative consolidation during the opening phase of the Thirty Years' War.

Hess references 417 and 418 indicate two distinct varieties for this two-year emission, differentiated by minor die details in the armorial treatment rather than any change in issuing authority.
