Obverse description Crowned right-facing bust of Ferdinand I in profile, wearing armor with elaborate detail, occupying the central field. The date is split to either side of the bust. The circular legend reads FERDINAN D G ROM BOEM HVNG REX, rendered in Latin characters around the periphery. The portrait is executed in the robust Renaissance hammered style typical of mid-sixteenth-century Bohemian thalers. The legend is separated by stops and partial abbreviations denoting the king's full royal titles.
