| Reverse description | The entire reverse field is occupied by an eight-line funerary inscription in Roman capital lettering recording the death of Ernest III, including the precise date, hour, age, and length of reign. The text is arranged in evenly spaced horizontal lines filling the field from top to bottom, with a small decorative foliate ornament at the foot. A beaded border encircles the inscription, consistent with the hammered technique of the period. The composition is austere and epigraphic in character, typical of German memorial thalers of the early seventeenth century. |
