| Obverse description | Draped bust of Ernest Frederick, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, facing right, wearing a long curled wig and elaborately mantled armor with a decorative gorget and order badge visible at the chest. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the late Baroque style, filling much of the field. The circular Latin legend reads ERNESTVS FRIDERICVS. D. G. D. S. COBVRG. SAALFELD along the periphery, divided by the portrait. The coin border features a fine toothed or milled rim. |
