| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Ernest August of Hannover, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair and characteristic sideburns. The truncation is plain and sharply cut. The encircling Latin legend reads ERNST AUGUST V.G.G. KOENIG VON HANNOVER, separated from the portrait by an inner beaded border. The mint initial A appears at the base of the portrait near the lower rim. The overall style reflects the classical neoclassical portraiture favored by German state mints of the 1840s. |

| Reverse description | The royal arms of Hannover displayed on an ornate quartered shield, surmounted by a large royal crown with elaborate detailing. The shield quarters bear the traditional Hanoverian heraldic devices including horses, lions, and other dynastic emblems, supported by decorative baroque cartouche-style scrollwork on either side. The circular legend EIN THALER XIV EINE F.M. is distributed around the upper field, with FEINES 1840 SILBER appearing in the lower portion around the base of the shield. A beaded border frames the entire design. |
