Aanvullende informatie

The Mansfeld thalers of the early seventeenth century reflect the administrative chaos of a county divided among so many co-ruling counts that mint rights became almost impossible to police. By 1609, the various Mansfeld lines — long exhausted by partition inheritance — were issuing coinage under individual names partly as a assertion of personal authority within a shrinking domain. The county's silver came from its own Harz-region mines, which were in serious decline by this date, making later Mansfeld issues progressively harder to finance.

The "David" designation identifies the specific count, David of Mansfeld-Hinterort, one of several simultaneous rulers signing off on independent emissions from the same mint.
