Obverse description Central field occupied by the elaborate quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Mainz, displaying the distinctive six-spoked wheel of Mainz repeated across the quarters, surmounted by an electoral cap beneath an archiepiscopal cross. The shield is supported by ornate Renaissance mantling and flanked by two heraldic supporters. An imperial eagle with spread wings crowns the achievement above, with the date 15–71 divided across the upper field. The circumferential legend in Latin runs between two rope-pattern borders: DANIEL. D. G. ARCHI. EPIS. MOGVN. PR. EL. 15 71, identifying the issuer as Daniel Brendel von Homburg, Archbishop of Mainz and Prince-Elector, by the grace of God.
