背面描述 Laureate and draped bust of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I facing right, portrayed with a long flowing wig in the characteristic late baroque style. The emperor wears armour with an ornate gorget and a lace cravat visible at the shoulder. The portrait is finely detailed and occupies the majority of the coin's field. The circular Latin legend, referring to Leopold I as perpetual august Emperor and conqueror of the Turks, surrounds the bust within a milled border.

附加信息

Corvey Abbey's right to strike coinage was a constant source of friction with neighboring secular powers throughout the seventeenth century, and by 1694 the abbey's minting activity was operating on borrowed time — the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn had been pressing jurisdictional claims against Corvey's imperial immediacy for decades. Christopher of Bellinghausen served as prince-abbot during one of the institution's more embattled periods, and thalers issued under his authority are correspondingly scarce. Corvey would lose its effective minting autonomy not long after.
