| Obverse description | The entire field is occupied by an eleven-line Latin commemorative inscription rendered in capital letters, honouring Christoph Bernhard von Galen, Prince-Bishop of Münster, and enumerating his titles and offices including Bishop of Münster, Administrator of Corvey and Stromberg, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, Lord of Borck, restorer and propagator of the ecclesiastical principality. The date is given in the final line in Roman numerals: MDCLXXVIII. The lettering is boldly engraved in relief, filling the field edge to edge with no portrait or other pictorial element. |
