Reverse description The entire reverse field is occupied by a bold eight-line funerary inscription in Latin capitals, recording the death of Elector Christian I on 25 September 1591, rendered in Roman numerals as M·D·XCI. The text reads OBIIT / XXV SEPTEM / BRIS ANNO / M·D·XCI· / IACTVRAM / OSTENDET / DIES, conveying the memorial sentiment that time will reveal the magnitude of the loss. The mintmaster's initials HB appear at the foot of the inscription, and the coin is bordered by a fine milled inner circle.
