1 Thaler - Christian Frederick Charles Alexander Acquisition of Bayreuth

Christian Frederick Charles Alexander — Margrave of both Ansbach and Bayreuth by 1769 — issued this thaler to commemorate his assumption of the Bayreuth margraviate following the death of Frederick Christian, who left no male heir. The two Franconian margraviates had long been administered separately despite sharing the Hohenzollern bloodline, and their union under a single ruler was a notable consolidation, though it proved short-lived.

Alexander ceded both territories to Prussia in 1791, retiring to England on a substantial pension. The 1769 commemorative issue thus marks a political moment that would unravel within a generation.
