| Reverse description | A small child is depicted seated atop a human skull at center, playing a flute, symbolizing the fleeting nature of life and the vanity of earthly existence. To the lower left stands a vase filled with flowers, and to the lower right a smoking funerary urn, both serving as memento mori emblems. Arms issuing from clouds above hold a billowing ribbon or banderole bearing the Latin motto. The composition is rendered in the Baroque allegorical tradition common to German memorial coinage of the late 17th century. The reverse legend OMNIA VANITAS, meaning 'all is vanity,' frames the moral and theological message of the commemorative issue. |
