| Beschrijving keerzijde | Crowned imperial double-headed eagle displayed, each head surmounted by a separate crown beneath a central imperial crown, with wings spread and elaborate plumage rendered in fine detail. At the center of the eagle's breast is a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Habsburg dominions. The date appears in the upper field flanking the crown, and the Latin legend is distributed around the periphery of the coin. The composition is characteristic of the baroque heraldic style of the Holy Roman Empire. |

Charles VI spent much of this period fighting the War of the Spanish Succession's diplomatic aftermath — the Utrecht settlement of 1713 had denied him the Spanish throne he believed rightfully his, and the Vienna court was simultaneously managing the early negotiations that would become the Pragmatic Sanction of 1713, his ultimately fragile legal instrument for securing Habsburg succession through his daughter Maria Theresa. Thaler production at Vienna during these years served the double function of financing ongoing Austro-Turkish hostilities and projecting imperial legitimacy at a moment when that legitimacy was being contested on multiple fronts.
