Charles III Joseph of Lorraine was appointed Prince-Bishop of Olomouc in 1695 at the age of eleven — a nakedly political placement by the Habsburg court to secure ecclesiastical loyalty in Moravia. He held the see until his death in 1715, never taking holy orders beyond what was minimally required. The Thalers struck in his name during 1706–1707 fall squarely within the War of the Spanish Succession, when Imperial finances were under severe strain and Moravian mints were pressed into service supporting Habsburg military expenditure.
Davenport's attribution under EC III places this among the later ecclesiastical Thalers of the Holy Roman Empire's Moravian dioceses — a category that saw sharp production drops after 1710.
