Below the eagle, a crowned, helmeted, and mantled coat of arms forms the central device, flanked and surrounded by seven subsidiary shields bearing the arms of the duke's various territories, with two ducal monograms placed in the field to either side. The composition is elaborate and heraldic in character, consistent with late Renaissance coin design. The circumferential Latin legend is separated from the design by a beaded border. |
