Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Duke Charles III facing left, rendered in high relief with fine portraiture detail; the subject displays a bearded visage with curly hair, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with a richly draped mantle over the left shoulder. The date 1603 appears in the lower field beneath the bust. The circumferential Latin legend is contained within an inner beaded border, with a further beaded rim at the coin's edge.

Reverse description A large displayed imperial eagle dominates the upper field, its wings spread, surmounted by a crown. Below the eagle, a crowned, helmeted, and mantled coat of arms forms the central device, flanked and surrounded by seven subsidiary shields bearing the arms of the duke's various territories, with two ducal monograms placed in the field to either side. The composition is elaborate and heraldic in character, consistent with late Renaissance coin design. The circumferential Latin legend is separated from the design by a beaded border.
