| Obverse description | Central quartered and subdivided heraldic shield bearing the arms of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, surmounted by an ornate ducal crown. The escutcheon is flanked by two wildmen supporters standing on a decorative base, each grasping a tree trunk, rendered in high relief with fine detail. The circumferential Latin legend reads D • G • CAROLVS - DVX • BRVNSVIC • - LVNEB • with the date 1748. The overall composition is characteristic of the elaborate Baroque armorial style employed in mid-eighteenth-century German territorial coinage. |
