Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Augustus William of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel facing right, wearing armor with an ornate lace cravat and a flowing periwig with long curled locks in the late Baroque style. A ducal crown is depicted at the lower left of the bust truncation. The circumferential Latin legend reads AUGUSTUS. WILH. D.G. DUX. BR. ET. LUN., divided by the portrait. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail, set against a flat field, and the entire design is bordered by a bold dentilated rim.
