(Translation: Augustus, by the grace of God, duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg. Fama crowns Augustus`s immortal virtue.)
Reverse description The elaborate quartered coat of arms of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel occupies the central field, supported on either side by wild men (Wildmänner) as heraldic supporters, each holding a staff topped with a ducal crown. Above the shield, a row of five ducal crowns is arranged in an arc beneath a central larger crown, reflecting the multiple territorial dignities of the House of Welf. The shield displays the traditional quarterings of Brunswick (two walking lions), Lüneburg (a lion strewn with hearts), Westphalia (a white horse), and Eberstein (a crested helmet), among other heraldic elements. The circular legend along the outer rim carries the duke's personal motto and the date of issue.
