The thalers struck in his name during the final decade of his reign (he died in 1666 at age eighty-nine) were produced at the Zellerfeld mint, the primary facility serving the duchy's substantial Harz Mountain silver output. The Harz mines were among the most productive in the Holy Roman Empire throughout this period, giving Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel an unusual degree of monetary autonomy for a mid-tier principality.
