An angel figure appears above in the upper field, consistent with traditional iconography of the subject. The composition is rendered in vigorous hammered style typical of mid-sixteenth-century German coinage. The surrounding legend, in Low German, reads: DI(S)(T). IS(T). M(E)IN. LEVE(R). SON. DEN. S(OLT). (GI)(IR). HO(REN)., a quotation from the Baptism narrative referencing God's proclamation of Christ as His beloved Son. |
