Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a scene depicting the Baptism of Christ: a kneeling Christ at right receives the sacrament from Saint John the Baptist at left, who pours water over Christ's bowed head. An angel figure appears above in the upper field, consistent with traditional iconography of the subject. The composition is rendered in vigorous hammered style typical of mid-sixteenth-century German coinage. The surrounding legend, in Low German, reads: DI(S)(T). IS(T). M(E)IN. LEVE(R). SON. DEN. S(OLT). (GI)(IR). HO(REN)., a quotation from the Baptism narrative referencing God's proclamation of Christ as His beloved Son.
