Beschrijving voorzijde Draped bust of Anton Theodor von Colloredo-Waldsee facing right, wearing clerical robes and a mozzetta, rendered in fine baroque relief. The portrait is dignified and naturalistic, typical of late 18th-century Austrian ecclesiastical coinage. The circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading ANT THEODOR D G PRIM A EP OLOMU DUX, identifying the bishop as Prince-Archbishop of Olomouc by the grace of God. The field is smooth and slightly concave, with a milled edge border framing the design.

Aanvullende informatie

Anton Theodor von Colloredo-Waldsee was appointed Prince-Bishop of Olomouc in 1777, and this thaler was struck early in his tenure over a see that had been one of the wealthiest ecclesiastical territories in Moravia for centuries. The Colloredo family itself was deeply embedded in Habsburg imperial politics — his brother Hieronymus was the Archbishop of Salzburg who famously employed, then dismissed, the young Mozart in 1781.

Olomouc's mint output under Anton Theodor was modest, and the bishopric would lose its independent coinage privileges entirely within a generation as Josephine centralization squeezed out peripheral ecclesiastical minting.
