| 表面の説明 | Armored bust of Count Anton Günther facing right, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with a large lace ruff collar and a flower ornament at the chest, the hair rendered in fine striated detail. The effigy is set within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend running between the inner and outer borders. The portraiture reflects the refined German Renaissance medallic style characteristic of early 17th-century Thaler coinage. |

Anthony Günter ruled Oldenburg for an extraordinary 66 years, from 1603 until his death in 1667 — one of the longest reigns of any German territorial count. This thaler, struck in his accession year, predates by decades the extinction of the male Oldenburg line he spent much of his life trying to prevent through marriage negotiations. He died without legitimate heirs, and the county passed to Denmark under the terms settled at his death.
