Wallenstein acquired the Duchy of Sagan in 1627 as partial payment from Emperor Ferdinand II — compensation for his enormous personal loans financing Habsburg military operations during the Thirty Years' War. The right to strike coinage came with the duchy, and Wallenstein exercised it aggressively between 1628 and 1630, producing thalers that functioned as much as political currency as monetary ones. He was assassinated by imperial agents in 1634, just four years after losing his supreme command the first time.
Davenport EC II#3450 places this among the better-documented Sagan issues. The Meyer and FuS references corroborate a single production window, suggesting no extended mintage across multiple dies or years for this specific type.
