Mansfeld's complex co-rulership arrangements made coins like this administratively necessary and numismatically chaotic. The county's silver output came directly from its own copper-silver mines in the Harz foothills — among the most productive in sixteenth-century Germany — giving the counts both the means and the political incentive to strike thalers bearing all four ruling names simultaneously.
